
JOHAN DE KOKER (1950 – 2023)
COLLEAGUE/ MENTOR/ CHAMPION FOR THE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST
The Institute of Professional Engineering Technologists has lost a champion for all Engineering Technologists.
Johan de Koker, beloved friend and colleague died unexpectedly on Friday 1 December 2023.
Johan de Koker was one of the founding members of IPET and he worked tirelessly to ensure that all Engineering Technologists were recognised by all in the Engineering Fraternity.
Johan was on the ECSA council, IPET Council, EXCO Member of IPET, IPET President, SAICE Council Member, SAICE President, Marketing Manager of IPET and at the time of his passing he was the CEO of IPET. He also was for six years the Head of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Johannesburg.
He started various WhatsApp discussion chat groups which helped numerous technologists to register with ECSA.
Johan de Koker worked for IPET for 34 years.
Johan de Koker will be sorely missed and has left behind a legacy that for many is hard to follow in the Engineering Technologist Fraternity.
IPET extends their condolences to Johan’s wife Verelene, son Nico, daughter Estelle, grandchildren, friends and colleagues.
A GIANT IN THE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST FRATERNITY HAS BEEN LOST
